AGING IN PLACE
The Road to Wellness is designed from a perspective of primary and secondary prevention, where education, awareness, and activity foster positive aging. We also work closely with other programs at Jewish Family Service that address the needs of clients who require direct services and intervention, including Case Management, Senior Transportation, Housekeeping/Companion Services, and others. Together, we work to improve the wellness of all our clients by addressing their individual needs and interests at all levels!

Client Story: Imagine that you are an elderly woman in your eighties, living alone in an apartment complex surrounded by neighbors who barely know your name. The highlights of your week are a short visit from your daughter who brings you groceries, and your trip to the chiropractor. You were an avid bowler in your younger days, winning local competitions, but have since developed macular degeneration so you cannot see the pins and carpal tunnel syndrome so you cannot grip a ball. You feel like you have no reason left to live – no friends or activities that you enjoy. This is how Susan (not her real name) felt when her daughter read her the community newsletter and she learned about Wii Bowling sessions being held in her apartment building. She discovered that even with reduced sensation in her hands she could lift the Wii remote and press the buttons. Since she could not see the screen, the other bowlers would tell her which pins remained, and she demonstrated her knowledge and prowess with many strikes and spares! Now Susan is one of the most dedicated Wii bowlers in her community and also attends the EnhanceFitness class that is offered down the hall.
