HANDS (home delivered food boxes)
OVERVIEW & BENEFITS
Hunger in New Mexico, like elsewhere, is a problem primarily for the elderly, children and the working poor. Our nutrition programs aim to supplement the diets of older adults who are having difficulty due to limited budgets.
SERVICES
HANDS - The Helping HANDS program provides food boxes to Jewish Family Service’s Case Management clients who cannot come to the food pantry on their own. The food box is meant to supplement ECHO, food stamps, and regular shopping.
The JFS Food Pantry provides non-perishable food boxes to seniors in need who live in the NE Heights.
The Department of Senior Affairs congregate meal site at the Shalom House senior center offers adults, age 60 and over, the opportunity to socialize and enjoy a hot, nutritious lunch five days a week. Non-residents of Shalom House may participate if space is available. A $2.00 donation is requested ($5.00 for adults under 60 years old). Reservations are required by 11:00 the day before you'd like to dine. Please contact our meal site coordinator, Catherine Towers, to make a reservation or for more information.
