Services

WELCOME to our web site.
We hope you will spend some time here learning about how we can help you, your family or friends – or how you can get involved in helping others. We all face challenges at some point in our lives. Jewish Family Service aims to ease our clients through challenging times.

Jewish Family Service professionals have delivered vital human services to the community for 25 years. We are a non-profit, non-sectarian agency, and we offer our services to anyone in need. Whether it is providing transportation for an older adult, assisting a family in transition, or working with referring social service agencies, we strive to treat all clients with respect, dignity and confidentiality.

Our Vision

Jewish Family Service of New Mexico (JFSNM) will become the premier
nonprofit organization for promoting Aging in Place and meeting the
social service needs of Jewish and non-Jewish elderly in New Mexico.
JFSNM will make significant contributions to meeting the social service
needs of Jewish and non-Jewish families in New Mexico.

The Jewish value of tikkun olam, repairing the world, guides our work. We are here to offer support, comfort and hope. Browse our site or contact us to learn more.

JFS Food Pantry - Most Urgent Need

This month the Food Pantry wants to help people keep their pets fed and at home with their families!

Pets are the silent sufferers when their families can’t buy food or have to leave their homes. We try to help these family members by giving out dog and cat food at the JFS Food Pantry. Many of our clients say they will feed their children and pets first, and then buy food for themselves with any money left over.

When you donate pet food, you not only help families keep their pets, but you also help seniors keep what is often their only companion. What better way to bring joy to families and seniors already struggling? Your food donations also help keep pets out of the shelters and improve the chance of finding a home for the animals already at the shelters.

You can help JFS help the dogs and cats in needy families by dropping off bags of dry dog food and dry or canned cat food at our Food Pantry collection sites – our office, the JCC lobby, and JFS food bins at local Congregations. We also appreciate donations of large, sealable plastic bags that can be used to break 50 lb bags of dog food into smaller amounts to share with more families.

Our pet food goal this month is 1,000 pounds of dog food, 500 lbs of dry cat food and 100 cans of canned cat food. You can help by donating today!

We always welcome funds contributed to help run our Food Pantry Program. Thank you very much for your support of this vital community program!

JFS Brain Fitness Program

Through the Community Innovations in Aging in Place grant and in partnership with Aging Matters, LLC, JFS has developed a new curriculum called “Engaged Aging: Building Fitter Brains,” which details the interconnectedness of physical and cognitive exercise, nutrition, and creativity when it comes to brain fitness. The curriculum offers a series of activities and exercises that you can do individually or in groups, and at home or in a community meeting place. It is currently being piloted at The Road to Wellness sites and is already gathering a crowd! Click on the Brain Fitness poster or the link above to view the manual.
